In order to get the intended results from a skin resurfacer or chemical peel the skin has to be injured by a controlled solution. Depending on the desired outcome, the solution will induce a specific reaction to the skin, which is important because this is what propels skin to heal itself, stimulating the natural wound healing process. Chemically exfoliating the outer layer of damaged skin, stimulates collagen production, addressing specific concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne scarring.

Temporary side effects may include, but are not limited to, stinging, itching, irritation, redness, mild swelling, tightness, peeling, dryness, or tenderness which typically subside within 24-48 hours after the treatment. Because some products can contain active ingredients and the skin's cell turnover process has been stimulated, it is normal for some people to experience a breakout. If this occurs, it's recommended to focus on hydrating products in the first 5-7 days before re-introducing active products which include acids or retinols. 

Test patches need to be performed 48 hours before the first treatment. If there has been a 6 month break from treatments, then a patch test should be performed again before treatments recommence.

• Arrive to your appointment with clean, make up free skin 
• Condition skin surface with appropriate homecare products 10-14 days prior treatment
• Keep sun exposure to a minimum and wear SPF 30 daily
• 7 days prior to treatment discontinue waxing or sugaring
• 7 days prior to treatment hold the use of retinol or other vitamin A derivatives
• 7 days prior to treatment hold all active ingredients and physical exfoliation such as acid based solutions and serums, hydroquinone, fruit enzyme masks, facial scrubs 
• 14 days prior to treatment hold the use of prescription retinoids
• 21 days prior to treatment hold the use of tazorac/tazarotene
• No peels for 1 year post Accutane/Roaccutane treatment

You will notice an instant glow right after the treatment. Improved skin texture is noticeable with continued enhancements over the following weeks. 

To ensure optimal results for DermaQuest's professional treatments, it is recommended to practice the use of DermaQuest's Essential Starter Kit for a minimum of two to four weeks prior to the treatment for Fitzpatrick skin types I-III, and four to six weeks for Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI. Additionally, for Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI, the addition of a tyrosinase inhibitor into the skincare regimen is advised, some examples of such include but are not limited to, Advanced MelsQuest Serum, MelaQuest Cream 2oz, Universal Clarifying Pads, and Advanced Peptide Line Corrector.

For one week following a chemical peel adhere to the DermaQuest Post-Treatment Home Care Kit regimen. Apply all products twice daily, as tolerated by the skin. Natural SheerZinc Broad Spectrum SPF 30 should be applied daily and reapplied every two hours during prolonged sun exposure. Until the skin is completely healed, Post Treatment Cream should be applied as needed. 

DAY 1

• Skin may be flushed, possible redness
• DO NOT apply product or wash peeled area for a minimum of 8 hours (24 hours is ideal for best results)

DAY 2

• Cleanse with Essential Daily Cleanser
• Skin may feel tight and appear slightly tan
• Dryness may occur
• Essential B5 Hydrating Serum and Sheer Zinc SPF should be applied

DAYS 3-7

• Cleanse with Essential Daily Cleanser
• B5 Hydrating Serum and Sheer Zinc SPF 30 can be applied
• Peeling begins around the mouth and chin area moves outward until complete
• If there are any areas of significant redness, irritation, or discomfort, apply a thin layer of Post Treatment Cream as needed
• DO NOT pick and pull lifted skin (hyperpigmentation and infection may set in as a result of pulling lifted skin)

DAYS 8-10

• Light flaking around the perimeter of the face
• May gradually re-introduce retinol/AHA products if there is no irritation and peeling has ceased
• Discontinue use of Post Treatment Cream unless skin is very irritated, as this may interrupt the peeling and rejuvenation process

• Avoid swimming or exercise for a minimum of 48 hours, longer if the skin is still peeling
• Refrain from participating in activities that would cause heat to the body as this might aggravate the treated areas 
• Wear broad-spectrum sunblock daily. Reapply as necessary. Products recommended include Sheer Zinc SPF 30. 
• Mineral make up is typically allowed after 8 hours post-treatment, using minimal pressure
• Avoid direct exposure to hot baths and showers (no steam) 
• The use of jacuzzis, saunas, or steam rooms should be avoided until the skin is completely healed
• Do not pick, rub, or pull skin if peeling, as this may lead to scarring 
• Avoid active ingredients and any form of exfoliation for 7 days post-treatment
• No other treatments to the area such as laser hair removal, laser skin treatments, waxing, sugaring for at least 7 days post-treatment 

Noticeable results often appear after a single treatment. 

Resurfacers can be performed in a series of six treatments, with intervals of one to two weeks, twice per year. 

Chemical peels can be done in a series of three treatments, spaced three to four weeks apart, one to two times per year. 

For optimal results, sustained improvements, and to maintain the results of a chemical peel, we recommend following up with monthly resurfacers or one chemical peel every four months to help maintain healthy, glowing skin.
